Mufutu preaching caution ahead of Thunder clash

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) former men’s league champions Ulinzi Warriors have a date with rivals Nairobi City Thunder on Saturday 11 February at the Ulinzi Complex.

Head coach Bernard Mufutu says the team is finalising their preparations for the clash and has urged his charges not to be complacent in their approach of the match they need to maintain their winning streak.

“Morale and confidence in camp is high but we are also training and plotting for this clash with some degree of caution at Thunder are a god side and any lapses on our part could be costly.

We have prepared well, working on the areas that we felt needed some work. Our transition on both ends of the court and rebounding has been the main focus ahead of the weekend action and I am confident of a good show,” offered Mufutu.

The military side is coming off a commanding 89-71 victory against University of Nairobi (UoN) Terror, a win that takes them to 30 points after 17 matches and second on the log behind leaders Equity Dumas.

Victory for Mufutu’s charges takes Warriors top of the log, albeit for the night, as Dumas are set to battle Thunder on Sunday.

After last weekend’s match, Mufutu attributed the improved performance this year to the break that allowed players that had some injuries to get back on their feet as well as being able to address areas of concern and also gel with new recruits.

“The players are sharing the ball better and our rebounding has improved massively. The biggest turnaround for the squad, however, has been our depth. Players off the bench are making a huge difference. Everyone is playing their part while also embracing team work,” the tactician explained.

Other weekend matches will see Zetech Titans continue their quest to escape relegation when they take on Strathmore Blades as Umoja welcome Eldonets on Saturday.
